What is a Choice Board?

A Choice Board is a visual strategy to use when a learner is overwhelmed by too many choices. You can put a smaller number of choices on this board for the learner to choose from. The visual is used to represent the items/activities that are available for a learner to choose from. It helps a learner communicate a desired activity, person, item, or location.

The goal of a Choice Board is to encourage communication, provide a visual reminder of what activities are available, and to encourage independent decision making throughout the day. The idea is that the learner has the items/tasks/activities displayed in a way that they can visually process the information rather than using words to convey that information.

It can be used for many situations like food or drink choices, activity or action choices, places or locations they want to go, people they want to see, toys they want to play with and so on. It can also be used as a reward choice board.Choice Board
